RFID tags

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of an object (typically referred to as an RFID tag) applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader.

Radio-frequency identification comprises interrogators, also known as readers, and tags, also known aslabels.

Most RFID tags contain at least two parts. One is an integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulating and demodulating a radio-frequency (RF) signal, and other specialized functions. The second is an antenna for receiving and transmitting the signal.

There are generally three types of RFID tags: active RFID tags, which contain a battery and can transmit signals autonomously, passive RFID tags, which have no battery and require an external source to provoke signal transmission, and battery assisted passive (BAP) which require an external source to wake up but have significant higher forward link capability providing great read range.

The EPCGlobal standard (uhfc1g2_1_1_0-standard-20071017.pdf from EPCGlobal) defines four classes of tags as class 1, class 2, class 3 and class 4. Each successive class has higher functionality than the previous one and is also backward compatible. Apart from these four classes, sometimes class 5 is also referred by users in the industry which are nothing but RFID readers.[citation needed]

RFID has many applications, for example, it is used in enterprise supply chain management to improve the efficiency of inventory tracking and management.

paper radio info.

Paper lately seems to have caught the fancy of artists, designers and crafters alike. The latest fusion of paper crafts and technology is a laser cut paper radio created by Matt Brown.

Equip with RFID chips, each paper radio is programmed with a preference for a particular musician or band. When placed over a speaker (embedded with an RFID reader I assume), the radios triggers the musician's or band's songs to play.

The concept, I believe, is to bring a certain set of tangibility to the now intangible world of digital music and internet radio.
It would be pretty cool though if they weren't all shaped like radios—I'd love to have a collection of charming paper trinkets, each assigned to a particular genre of music.

Biography

(1912-1993)

Denis Mitchell was initially a painter but became renowned for his polished bronze sculptures in the 1940's. Mitchell's first sculptures began in wood, slate and stone but after working closely with Barbara Hepworth, as her principle assistant between the years of 1949-1959, his style turned to bronze.
Mitchell was a member of the Penwith Society which formed in 1948 and was based in St. Ives. It was formed by abstract artists, who were breaking away from the St Ives Society of Artists, headed by Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson.

VERNACULAR PHOTO: ANONYMOUS FOLK ART SCULPTURE, C. 1940s:
Thank goodness for the person who decided it was important to take this snapshot some 70 years ago of a well-endowed robot by an anonymous sculptor. The object is great. The snapshot sold last night for $59.00 on eBay. If the original sculpture were still around, I guess the price to be in the $5K+ range, possibly more

Studying 50's fashion so to understand the market audience of pensioners who are a part of the "baby boomer" generation, it was common for wealthy women to wear fur and a fashion trend with young women was to tie ribbons around their neck.

rough Rob Ryan Style design for product

Rob Ryan Idea - Dan

I was looking at the artists who currently have work showing at Yorkshire sculpture park and saw a artist called rob ryan he had a very interesting style compared to other artists there, all the other artists there are creating sculptures and areas outside for people to explore, I thought that I could use rob ryan's style to present my work.

Rob ryan specialises in stencils or laser cut art work, I thought that this would work very well with the need to create items for the shops.

Here is a list of websites that rob ryan has made or is showing his work in:

http://www.misterrob.co.uk/

http://ryantownshop.blogspot.com/

I thought of different targets for the campaign to be aimed at, I thought to reach a groups that probably arn't the first choice for campaign to be aimed at.

At the moment the YCP seems to be getting students and the more mature audience because they have a greater understanding of most of the art work, YSP offers different classes to learn new skills but these cost allot of money.

I first started to think about people that wouldn't want to learn and people that at first you wouldn't think would have any money so I thought of children in primary school and high school so children from the age range of 7-15

I thought of another group that might be a bit different would be older generation from about 60-80 because some of the workshops that they include in YSP that you can buy are stone carving, bronze casting, wood carving and metal works

http://www.ysp.co.uk/view.aspx?id=144

I didn't want to target a younger audience because they would probably already be the main target for the classes and I wanted to reach out to a older target age.

For the designs I think that I would come up with 1-3 ideas on a piece of A3 card and reproduce it for posters, or use it as a stencil for t-shirts, books or any other items, I would create the pieces by drawing out a design on a sheet and cutting it out by hand and/or reproducing it with a laser cutter.

Some comics explaining friendship - Brad

raychul

I've decided to use children as a target audience. specifically children that come from abusive homes and have moved away from their parent(s).
the products i have been thinking of are products that would allow the child to feel like they have achieved something. I've also tried to relate some of the ideas to the sculpture park.

Ideas
Make your own sculpture - modelling clay [could have a sheet with examples and how to make them]

Grow your own crystal [e.g. http://www.shamanscrystal.co.uk/product/3400/grow-your-own-crystal-kit?referer=1]

A notebook with a blank canvas cover to paint/draw on - with paints/pens

A plain t-shirt and fabric pens - t-shirt could have an outlined image to colour

A scrapbook and glue with nature theme. pages could have scenes printed on such as a tree with no leaves so the child needs to find leaves to stick on.

emmas work so far

as the theme is friendship i asked people how they define friendship as a starting point:

-friends are pretty good (except tasker)
- make you feel like the only person in the world that matters when your feeling down and there no matter what.
- no matter what friends are what keep you going... :)
- someone who you can fart infront of without blusing haha, someone who will answer the phone all hours and listen to you moan, someone who leave everything and go see you when your cowering behind the sofa with a golf club, someone who you can trust with everything.
- people you want to spend time with and you can be yourself with.
- when you can fuck up big style and then make up with no hard feelings - thats good friendship. Also someone who knows your faults but likes you anyway.
- when you can tell someone/ they can tell you anything and theres no judegement. when your feeling shitty there the person you can turn too. its like an intense relationship without the sex!
- in college i noticed how people would constantly go around and bitch and moan and fall out with the poeple which they called there 'friends'. in my imidiate freindship group if we ever have a problem with each other its brought up then jokes are made then were all cool. so to me friends are people you will know for now and will always be able to be yourself around and do stupid stuff and trust and will always be there for you.
- it depends on the person, acceptance of people including flaws, a degree of love, caring, contact and similar views. the ability to say the right thing, not what they want to hear. A true friend would drop things to make sure there friend is ok. Compassion and the ability to laugh at each other without causing offence. Also someone you can learn from.
- to me friendship is non judgemental and unconditional, a true friend doesnt talk about you behind your back and you love them even when they drive you mad!
- friendship is the bond between two or more people in where you know you can trust them with pretty much anything and they will always have your back and look after you.
-no matter what you do a friend stands behind you, mutual respect and comfortable in silence
- yeh get high with a little help from yeh friends yeh get by with a litte help from yeh friends :P also the lyrics to 'friends will be friends' by queen was included in this message :D

Thats all the responce i have for now but il add more if i get them. All these people are aged from 19-40.

They are currently developing a project called the 'Natures Gallery' which is getting local people to take photographs of the wildlife around the park and submit them to the website where they will be shown. There is one guy in perticular, Dennis Bell who had took some amasing photos. I was thinking you could either take the photos ourselfs or use the ones that are already there by getting intouch with either him or the sculpure park. oliver.brown@ysp.co.uk is the email adress of the guy who is running it.
With the photographs i thought they could be turned into postcards, stamps, prints etc. and have information about the animal on the front. (there is really good info on the website) there could be a series for each one, say pick 4 birds and use different images, and could either focus on one type of animal or do different animals so it was an on going project to encourage people to keep coming back and also buy the products.
My target audience was going to be young photographers (20-40) say, that take a keen interest in the outdoors and wildlife. By including information about the image its not just a picture too.

I have done some very basic sketches of layouts and stuff but i will bring them to our lesson.

Well yeh theres my idea, other people seems to have different stuff but i thought i might aswell put this on hear.
